I wanted to ask you for a hug but I know you don’t like hugs.. so I am not asking
There is a misconception where one someone was told Autistics do NOT like physical affection and it spread like dandelion seeds on a windy day.
We can’t put everyone in a little box no matter how much we want to.
Some Autistics like hugs and affection and some don’t and some feel able to give affection on certain days and not on other days.
Autistic Tip- We LOVE YOU!! even though we don’t always have the ability to display this – We LOVE YOU!!
I once was discouraged that an ant crawling on the sidewalk would not take the quicker path. I watched it travel down the sidewalk, into the flower bed, over lumps of dirt, around a bush, under a leaf only to travel about 6 feet farther than the distance it had to. My first instinct was to pick it up and move it to where I saw it was going.
But ants don’t really need to save time do they. They don’t even care about time. They know their destination and they go to it the best they can. I’m not an ant so I really don’t know.

My grandma used to say “don’t put your eggs all in one basket” I really never knew what that meant . I thought she literally meant don’t put your eggs all in one basket. I dreaded the idea of getting older and buying my own eggs at the store and having to separate them all. What if I broke them?
What she really meant was don’t risk everything for one thing. Spread it out and save it a little. Don’t miss things because you only think it can come in one certain way.
Hugs are not the only way us Autistics share affection. There are many ways we show we love you in a day.
-a shoulder bump
-a smile
-eye contact or sometimes just looking in your direction
-laughing with you
Since communication is NOT our best talent sometimes we may be just like the ant on its long journey.
A hug may travel a great distance inside us to get where it is going ! OUT TO YOU !
Maybe even slower than you think it should.
But We Love You…we really do.
More than any ant could carry and any basket could hold.
